"Ringer"
at Delta?
First of all we
want to welcome our newest member, Doug Stuper, of
Chittenango. Welcome!
With that out of
the way let me be the first to complain "WE HAVE A RINGER!".
On first tournament as a regular member Doug comes to the
scales and cleans everyone's clocks with a limit weighing
12.65 lbs, a very respectable bag coming from Lake Delta.
Coming in second
place this Sunday was Doug's co-angler, Brad Ostrander with
a limit weighing 9.54 lbs. Third place was won by John
Williams with a 8.23 lbs limit of five smallmouth.
The rest of us
found Lake Delta to be quite a challenge. With bait busting
the surface all over the smallie's must think it's fall. The
one smallmouth I caught was coughing out 3" minnows and
crabs.
Best of all we
ended the day just minutes before the hurricane hit Rome.
Next stop is the Club Team Championship.
All kidding
aside, we would like to welcome all of our new members for
2008, Brad Ostrander, Fred Chilluffu, Nikki Lowe, Rich Tehan,
Jacon Bouck, Bill Baldwin, and Doug Stuper!
Un-Officially, "Rookie" takes 1st at
Chaumont, Rookie and Angler of the Year! Way to GO Brad!

That's right, Brad Ostrander not only took 1st at Chaumont,
but almost broke the all time club bag record with 18.60 lbs
of Chaumont Bay smallies. Coming in a respectful 2nd was
Mike Sudol with 3 fish weighing in at 12.76 lbs, a 4.25 lb
average! 3rd was won by another newcomer, Doug Stuper, with
a five fish limit weighing 12.42 lbs. Official standings
will be certified at the November 2nd meeting at the
Chittenango Firehouse.
Casting Kids Event 4/19, 9am

The Casting Kids event was a great
success. Thanks to all the members who attended, especially
to TJ for the new club banner and Scott for Bringing his
boat.
A reminder we have one more event
in June at the derby in Camden on the 14th. More details to
follow.
Casting Kids Event 6/14, 9am

The Casting Kids event held at the
Annual Camden Fishing Derby was fantastic. While kids and
their families were participating at the derby they had the
opportunity to stop at the Casting Kids contest to test
their skills at flipping, pitching and casting to targets.
Ottman
finds the largemouth in Sandy Pond, takes first!
At the invitation of Mike Gee,
Dave Ottman joined the club to fish in our September 28th
tournament on Sandy Pond and took first place with a
five-fish limit weighing in at 11.73 lbs.

Some of you might know Dave as
one of the Gander Mountain Pro Staff members. Dave not only
works at the Cicero store, but also presents fishing
seminars and competes in many national tournament trails, as
well as with several other local clubs.
Second place was won by John
Williams with a five-fish limit weighing 11.31 lbs, Nice job
John.
Third place was won by John's
boater, Al Salisbury, with a five-fish limit of 10.90. Al
takes over the leader board for Angler of the Year, with
just two tournaments to go.

Sandy Pong Lunker, a 4.41
smallmouth, was taken by Scott Sprole.

Non-boater Dick Wilcox leads Oneida Lake Tournament
Oneida Lake didn't give up her bass to easily during the
July 27th contest. The weekend hosted numerous other
tournaments including 2 days of Angler's Choice and ABA
tournaments. Even with all the fishing pressure some anglers
were persistent and brought in full bags.
Winning the Oneida Lake tournament was non-boater Dick
Wilcox with 10.68 after a one dead fish penalty. Second
place was won by second year member John Bouck with 4 fish
weighing in at 9.36, proving again you don't need the
biggest boat to catch fish. Third was won by Al Salisbury, a
charter member, bass tournament veteran, who is having a
great year.
We had 23 anglers in this tournament which pays out to 4
places, winning 4th place was newcomer Dia Vastola, wife of
Mike Gee with 4 fish weighing in at 7.36 lbs.
Conditions Sunday were calm in the a.m., which didn't help,
then a little wind late in the morning, which triggered fish
to start biting. As Mark Batur said, "if we only had another
hour to fish this would have been a different contest!".
Mike Gee Wins Otisco!
Our first tournament of the 2008
season was held Sunday June 29th on Otisco. Other than a few
sprinkles first thing in the morning the day was beautiful.
Mike Gee bagged a limit of five for a
total weight of 10.74 lbs. While not a record weigh by any
means it was much better than last years tournament.
Al Salisbury Placed second with a five
fish limit weighing in at 10.62 lbs. Al caught his entire
catch using tubes.
Pulling up in third was Mike Sudol,
fishing in a make-shift "bass boat" (see photo). While
handicapped only by comfort and horsepower, Mike still was
able to pull out a third with five fish weighing 9.15 lbs.
Newcomer Brad Ostrander impressed the
veterans by placing fourth on his first time out with a
limit weighing 8.62 lbs. Fifth place went to John Williams
with four fish weighing 6.77 lbs.
A pretty good start to the 2008
season. Even though the weights were not what we would like
to see, the new points system to determine AOY will give
equal value to first place at great as well as poor weight
tournaments.
"Kermit"
takes the big bass at Lake Champlain
Mike Sudol, Lake Champlain 2007 Lunker Largemouth 4.88
lbs.
What a great tournament on Lake
Champlain. Great weather, lake was in great condition, even
though there were two large scale tournaments this weekend
we were able to slide in and do our thing.
Mike Sudol took 1st place with a
15.51 lb bag of largemouths, anchored with a solid 4.88 lb
lunker. Mike flipped downed trees for his limit, however
culled larger bass using a Spro Jr. Frog on top of matted
vegetation and slop.
Rookie Mark Batur is on the move
again with a nice 2nd place finish weighing in at 13.92 lbs.
At this pace our rookie might be called Angler of the Year!
Mike Gee took third with a
respectable 9.77 lb bag, just edging out his pretty
non-boater Dia, although she did collect Mike's check in his
absence!
Next Tournament is Onondaga on
Sept 9th. Get your pairings reported to Mike ASAP. Onondaga
is always a great tournament.
